Afristar Bio Limited is a starch project developer and project manager focused on delivering and operating cassava-based starch businesses in sub-Saharan Africa. We are working on  a series of starch and bioenergy projects to satisfy the substantial and rapidly growing starch markets in China, South East Asia, Europe and Africa. The global starch market amounts to 85 mln tonnes per annum, and is growing at 3.5 % aai, leading to a market valued at more than $100 billion by 2024.

Cassava starch has a number of properties which enable it to occupy an increasing share of the starch market, due to cost effective production, and high quality attributes. Currently one third of cassava starch production is used in the sweetener sector, with strong growth also being experienced in soft drinks, brewing and distilling alcoholic drinks, foods, pharmaceuticals and paper sectors.

Starch also finds markets in mining and oil exploration, which is of great interest in a number of African markets, with the potential to displace imported starch with locally produced starch and derivatives.
